Day 54 - Sept 11 - Hollywood - Hurray for Hollywood

Today we had a leisurely drive from Bishop to Hollywood. We passed Mt. Whitney, which at 14,000' is one of the highest peaks in the lower 48 states. I must admit that because the valley floor is about 5,000' it was not all that impressive. We continued through the Mojave desert, which was one of the most boring rides we've encountered this trip. It is flat and brown. Marg commented that there must have been plenty of cowboy movies shot here. There was one interesting site along the way though. The town of Mojave, which is close to Edwards Air Force Base, has an airport where they test new planes. So as you approach it you see rows and rows of new planes just sitting out there on the desert.

We arrived at our hotel in the middle of the afternoon. It is the Holiday Inn and is close to Universal Studios. After relaxing, we went to the Sunset Strip, where we had dinner at the Saddle Ranch Chop House. It was a busy loud restaurant and had a mechanical bull that you could ride. Hey Kari and Laurie where were my Nashville gals, the ones that wanted to ride the bull. Several men tried to ride it but no one was particularly successful.

To complete the evening, we went to the Comedy Store to see their stand up comedians. This is the club where Robin Williams, Chris Rock, David Letterman and Richard Prior, among others, got their start. The show had 16 comedians performing for 10 - 15 minutes each. This is the show where they get to try out their new material. We did not know any of the acts and to be truthful most of them were in Liam's words "lame." There was one act, John Caparulo from the TV show Samantha Who, which was hilarious. You can see him on Youtube.

Because we were close to the front, a few of the comedians targeted Brian because of his moustache or thing as granddaughter Mckenna called it, including the final act where the comedian, whose names escapes us, kept calling him Loren Green. Near the last part of his act he said " Loren Green, I Love you!"

Tomorrow we are off see to the Howie Mandel Show, Deal or No Deal. Hey sister Donna, we will put a good word in for you. Then maybe you could become a contestant!
