Day 55 - Sept 12 - Hollywood - Deal Or Ordeal

Today we went to Culvert City to see a taping of Deal or No Deal. It turned out that this was the 200th show and will be shown on January 21, 2009. Now we don't profess to know how to produce a TV game show but this was a real eye opener on poor planning and execution.

It started with the arrival. The ticket said we should arrive 15 minutes before the 2pm taping which we did. We didn't get into the studio until 3:15 and this was followed by an hour of coaching on what to do at certain points in the show, such as when then models appear or when the host Howie Mandel says something.

Once the show started, each break entailed having most of the technical staff, such as makeup artists, approach the stage, talk to each other for 15 minutes and then proceed doing what ever they were supposed to do. It appeared to us that the director had not planned what his next shots were supposed to be and was playing it by ear, which left everyone standing around doing nothing. It took close to 4 hours to shoot an one hour show. The final shot which would be about a minute in length took close to 30 minutes to setup and shoot. So in total we spent over 6.5 hours to see this show.

To top this off, we expected that we may have been given some type of gift for the 200th show, but we didn't even get a piece of cake! To add insult to injury we were told before the show starting shooting that the previous audience had received a pocket computer, a video game, five day car rental and a year pass to Sea World.

Tomorrow we are going on a city tour of LA which includes driving past the homes of the stars. It should be fun.
